Bringing Ladybank Wastewater Pumping Station up to Scottish Water Adoption Standard

When Fife Council required support with a wastewater pumping station that had failed a Scottish Water adoption audit, they turned to Aqua-Tech’s Service & Maintenance team to identify the issues, implement remedial works and help progress the asset towards adoption.

Challenge

Following a Scottish Water audit, Ladybank Commercial Crescent WWPS 2 was found to have a number of issues preventing the asset from being adopted.
These ranged from operational and maintenance concerns through to construction and compliance-related defects, including:

Inaccessible penstock controls.
Non-compliant valve chamber support arrangements.
Duct sealing deficiencies.
Level control sensor positioning concerns.
Verification of pump performance and pass-forward pumping rates.
Valve chamber access and maintenance compliance issues.

With adoption dependent on these issues being resolved, Fife Council required an experienced wastewater specialist with a knowledge of Scottish Water's requirements, and who was capable of delivering both technical compliance assessments and remedial works.

Solution Implemented

Drawing on our extensive experience of wastewater pumping stations and Scottish Water adoption requirements, Aqua-Tech carried out detailed inspections before developing and delivering a targeted remedial works programme.

Our engineers:

Installed compliant concrete supports beneath valve chamber pipework.
Sealed penetrations between the wet well and valve chamber.
Installed Rise Kits to ensure compliant duct sealing.
Repositioned and verified the accuracy of the level instrumentation.
Modified the penstock access arrangement so it could be operated correctly from the surface.
Improved valve chamber access and maintainability.
Undertook operational testing, inspections and reporting to support the adoption process.

Importantly, the Aqua-Tech team didn't simply address the items listed within the audit. During the works, additional issues were identified and resolved to ensure the station met both the spirit and the technical requirements of Scottish Water's adoption standards.

Outcome

By combining technical knowledge, practical wastewater engineering expertise and a clear understanding of the Scottish Water adoption process, Aqua-Tech's team helped transform the pumping station from an asset that could not be adopted into one with a clear pathway towards vesting.

The completed works improved compliance, maintainability and operational confidence while helping Fife Council reduce the risk of further delays in the adoption process.
