Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the implementation, integration, and lifecycle management of Operational Technology (OT) systems, Telemetry solutions, and Specialist Engineering survey services.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in the design, development & Implementation of project solutions, from conception through to construction phase. The role focuses on delivering reliable, secure, and accurate systems that support operational monitoring, data acquisition, and asset information management.
Location: Edinburgh / Glasgow AND Bamber Bridge, Preston.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers with knowledge to complete project engineering deliverables
- Assist with planning, programming, and sequencing of works
- Attend and contribute to internal and external project review and progress meetings
- Participate in design/project coordination with other engineering disciplines and professionals
- Willingness to travel to operational assets and site surveys
- Support procurement of project equipment and materials
- Provide Technical support during installation and commissioning.
- Produce engineering reports and feasibility studies
- Develop risk assessments and method statements and safe systems of works
- Promote safe working practices and technical best practice on site
- Support or lead software testing and commissioning activities on and off site.
- Assist in producing Operation & Maintenance manuals, test certificates, and as-built documentation
- Support client witnessing, snag resolution and project close-out
- Identify and manage technical risks, changes and value engineering opportunities
Qualifications and Skills
- Preferably an Engineering Degree / HND / HNC or equivalent in electrical/software engineering or related discipline
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience delivering project engineering/infrastructure projects
- Previous utility industry knowledge and experience is beneficial but not essential
- Proven ability to work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlines
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams
Preferred Skills
- Experience in utilities, water, infrastructure, or industrial environments
- Experience working under NEC or similar contracts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- OT, telemetry or automation-related training
- Knowledge of LV systems, control panels, instrumentation or automation
- Experience with vendor software (e.g., SCADA, PLC tools, design software)
- Familiarity with OT communications protocols (e.g. Modbus, DNP3, OPC)
- Awareness of OT cybersecurity principles
